Buttons of Love

My Mom was a collector of many things. She loved baskets, pottery face jugs, hearts, kitchen stuff, magazines and country things from Georgia and North Carolina. After my Mom passed away, I wanted to pick just a few small things of hers to bring home so I could feel her close to me. I chose to keep all of her clothes. Even almost 2 years later, they still smell like her. Her clothes were made of beautiful colors...aqua, yellow, pink...all of the colors of the rainbow.  The first project I did with her clothes involved the buttons.  I took off every single button, hand sewed them onto a piece of her pink shirt, framed it and hung it on the wall. I absolutely loved how it turned out.

Fabric of Love

The second project I did with my Mom's clothes involved the fabric.  I cut small strips of the fabric, rolled them up and glued them together. This is still a work in progress. I am working on a large heart shape right now.  Once I am done, I will glue all of the pieces onto a large piece of her white shirt and frame it. This is a beautiful and artistic way to remember someone.  Instead of throwing away or selling their clothes, turn them into something beautiful to hang on your wall. Every time I look at what I created, I think of how my Mom looked when she wore these clothes. She lived her life in these clothes and she also fought the hardest battle of her life in these clothes.

The last launch

Even though sometimes it stinks living in Florida...like the 364 days of summer we have...it still has it's perks. Like, for example, watching a space shuttle blast off into space from our own front yard. Today, the very last shuttle launched into space. Never again will we be able to witness one. When the Atlantis finishes it's 12 day mission, it will come back home to Florida permanently.

6 Days Old

 I was so excited to photograph my little cousin Henry.  He was only 6 days old here and such a good baby!

3rd of July

The boys and I spent July 3rd at Baldwin Park. We played games, ate yummy food, dressed Pokey as The Statue of Liberty and watched the fireworks.
